Math League

2023-24 Blue Earth Area Math League:  Meet #5 - Monday, February 12 at Prairie Winds Middle School in Mankato

The Blue Earth Area mathletes wrapped up another solid season with a respectable showing at the final meet of the year.  Overall, BEA placed 5th in the Section (similar-sized schools) and 6th in the Division (including larger schools like Mankato East and West).  State-wide, the Buccaneer problem-solvers finished 25th out of the 51 teams competing in their class. Their Section 2A consisted of three of the top 10 schools in the State (Shattuck-St. Mary’s, Luverne, and Waseca)!

Seth Mathews was recognized as BEA’s top scorer this season (he was also the Bucs’ top dog last year).  Seth tallied 32 points, good for 7th place overall in the Section (and 12th in the Division)!  Classmate Brady Lorenz also had a commendable campaign, accumulating 29 points which placed him 9th in the Section (15th in the Division)!  Seth and Brady were members of BEA’s Section Champion and State 3rd-place squad in 2021-22!  Fellow senior Joe Frundt placed 18th in the Section (29th Division-wise) to cap off an excellent senior season!  Classmates Manav Chaudhari, Jamie Johnson, and Seth Stevermer were loyal and jovial teammates to the end!  Hats off to this senior sextet, and many thanks for numerous quality seasons and notable careers - well done, gentlemen!

BEA will return several promising underclassmen for next year:  Sophomore Jacob Murray had a breakout meet, scoring 6 points today!  Fellow soph Noah Hanson garnered 4 points, as did 8th-grade prodigy Memphis Johnson!  And frosh female Emily He chipped in a point today as well!  Junior Shaymus Bellecourt and 10th-grader Mitchell Stevermer missed the meet due to illness, but they will be forces in the future!

Today also marked the final meet for Buc coach Tom Plocker, who has mentored the mathletes for over 30 years. The torch will be passed to Trinity Seedorf, who will lead the troops with her energy and expertise!  Go Buc Mathletes!
