This year marks Year 3 of our Teen Awareness Program (TAP) an 8-week learning experience designed specifically for our 6th grade students at Blue Earth Area Middle School. We are excited to continue offering this meaningful program, led by 6th grade science teacher Heather Hernandez, that empowers students by giving them a voice in their own learning.
Through TAP, students help identify and choose the topics they feel are most important as they navigate early adolescence. Based on their input, we invite speakers from our local community to educate, support, and engage students in discussions centered on real-world experiences. These partnerships allow students to hear from knowledgeable professionals, ask thoughtful questions, and build skills that will support their growth now and in the future.
Topics addressed through the Teen Awareness Program include:
Drug and Alcohol Awareness
Peer Pressure and Decision Making
Mental Health and Wellness
Self-Esteem and Personal Growth
Our goal through TAP is to equip students with knowledge, confidence, and healthy strategies that will guide them through middle school and beyond. We are grateful for the continued support of our families and community partners as we work together to make this program a positive and impactful experience for our students.
