2nd Grade
A familiar face to many, 2018 BEA graduate Julia Hanson is starting her fourth year of teaching after spending three years as our much-loved Discovery Place Preschool teacher. She is excited to work with a new group of students and teachers and to continue growing her skills as an educator. Outside the classroom, she enjoys working out, crocheting, reading, and relaxing with a good movie.

Kindergarten
Tori Mohwinkel joined BEA last fall, stepping right into the kindergarten classroom after graduating from Waldorf University. Originally from St. James, she’s excited for the opportunity to grow as a teacher. In her free time, she enjoys sports, reading, and shopping.

Full-time Substitute Teacher
Carter Bell is another familiar face as he grew up in the area. He is the district floating sub and will work in just about every grade. Carter has a bachelor's degree in business management and is working on his master's degree in elementary and special education. This will be his first year teaching. His father Corey is a farmer. His mother Cathy is a second grade teacher in Fairmont, after 30 years at BEA. Carter also has an older brother Collin, who farms, and a younger sister Ashley, who is currently in college.

🍎Meet Mr. Kreps!
High School Social Studies
Terry Kreps grew up on his family farm about 20 miles north of Moorhead, where he attended school, and later stayed in Moorhead to attend Concordia College – home of what he jokingly refers to as “one of the lamest mascots in the history of mascots.” He is excited for the opportunity to get to know the students and communities that BEA serves. In his free time, Mr. Kreps enjoys all things games – board, card, or video – as well as diving into historical research.

Discovery Place Preschool/ECFE Baylea Obermeyer joined BEA last year as a kindergarten teacher and is now returning as our Discovery Place Preschool/ECFE teacher. She grew up in Independence, Iowa, where she attended Independence Jr./Sr. High School. She now lives in Walters, Minnesota. She’s excited about the opportunity to teach our littlest students. When she’s not in the classroom, she enjoys spending time with her family.

Elementary Art
Courtney Mattson, who joined BEA partway through last school year, is passionate about art and art history and loves inspiring young artists. She’s excited to continue introducing students to artists from around the world, exploring art movements, and teaching new techniques and styles. Originally from Elk River, Minnesota, she earned her associate’s degree from South Central College and her degree in Art Education with a minor in Art History from Minnesota State University. Outside the classroom, she enjoys concerts, time with friends and family, reading, and caring for her 50+ houseplants. She’s engaged to her fiancé, Alex, and they share their home with an adorable cat named Nixie.

4th Grade
Rebecca Morrow is a familiar face, having subbed in 5th grade last year. She is excited to build strong relationships with her students and their families and looks forward to collaborating with such a welcoming and supportive staff. Originally from Fairmont, Minnesota, Mrs. Morrow graduated from Fairmont High School before earning her degree from Bethany Lutheran College. She recently celebrated a big milestone – getting married this past April! In her free time, she enjoys going on walks, spending time with family and friends, reading, and watching movies and shows with her husband.

A Blue Earth native and member of the Class of 2014, Amy Bartlett earned her degree in Elementary Education from Winona State University in 2017. She now lives in Winnebago with her husband, their two children, and their chocolate lab. Mrs. Bartlett is especially excited to have a supportive team of teachers to collaborate with this year. In her free time, she enjoys going on side-by-side rides with her family.

2nd Grade
Bianca Nagel lives in Fairmont with her boyfriend, Josh, their three children—Irah (10), Jemma (5), and Alma (2)—and their two dogs, Peyton (13) and Roxy (7). She earned her B.S. in Elementary Education from Walden University and her M.S. in Early Childhood Education from Grand Canyon University. Excited for a fresh start and to join such a welcoming team, Ms. Nagel enjoys spending time with her family, camping, cheering on her kids in their activities, and reading. She’s also a creative at heart, making custom shirts, cups, and coozies—and she loves decorating royal icing sugar cookies in all kinds of flavors!

Early Childhood Education Coordinator
Kayla Hassing is thrilled to be part of the very same program where her education journey began 25 years ago and is eager to bring fresh ideas to the ECFE & Discovery Place Preschool program. Born and raised in Blue Earth, she attended school here from preschool through 12th grade before heading to La Crosse, Wisconsin. She then attended UW–La Crosse. After college, she taught in Wisconsin for two years before returning to Blue Earth. Since then, she has taught in a variety of roles, including 2nd grade, 3rd grade, and K–8 interventions. In her free time, Mrs. Hassing enjoys going for walks, working out, reading, and spending time with her family.

Our Transportation Department has been working diligently to manually enter each family’s transportation plan; here’s how you can access your child’s route information:
🚌High School students:
▪️Available now in the Parent Portal (log in, click “More” on the left side, then “Transportation”)
▪️OR get a printed copy of your transportation plan when you pick up your child's Chromebook at the Bucs Bash on Wednesday, August 20, 4–7 pm.
🚌K–7 students:
▪️Your child’s teacher will have your printed transportation plan available at Back-to-School Conferences on Monday, August 25 & Tuesday, August 26
▪️OR you may log in to the Parent Portal early next week to view it online

School photos for students in grades K-7 will be taken during Back-to-School Conferences on Monday, August 25th and Tuesday, August 26th.
Photos will be taken by Seifried Portrait Design from Fairmont, MN. This new approach gives parents the opportunity to be present when photos are taken, helping ensure a smooth and stress-free experience.
If your K-7 student is unable to attend conferences, a makeup photo day will be held once school is in session.
High School students (grades 8-12) will have their school photos taken during the school day on Thursday, September 4th.
A Note from Seifried Portrait Design:
You will not need to fill out a paper form.
· You will not need to decide ahead of time if and what you want to purchase.
· No money will need to be sent with your child on picture day.
· A few days after pictures are taken, you will receive a private link to view your child's pictures, giving you the opportunity to choose your favorite before purchasing.
· You can choose to order at your convenience from your computer or cell phone.
· Best pricing: order early, if possible, as our best pricing always happens in the first couple of days.
· Purchased orders will be sent directly to your home.

Blue Earth Area Schools is seeking a caring, motivated, and reliable individual to serve as a Preschool Paraprofessional at Discovery Place Preschool. This is a rewarding opportunity to support early learners in a nurturing, educational environment.
Position Details:
▪️Work closely with licensed preschool teachers to support instruction and student needs.
▪️Assist in daily routines, classroom activities, and student engagement.
