A message from our Superintendent:

Often, schools are so focused on the daily work of educating students that the many efforts and progress happening behind the scenes are not always visible to the public. As such, I would like to share an important step our School Board took during Wednesday evening’s meeting regarding the future of our school facilities.

At the meeting, the School Board authorized the district to submit a Review and Comment proposal to the Minnesota Commissioner of Education. While that phrase may sound technical, it represents an important first step in exploring possible solutions to the challenges we are facing with our school buildings.

As many in our community know, our PreK-7 facility is experiencing significant infrastructure challenges. The building has served generations of students well, but age and wear have led to growing concerns about its long-term viability, especially with the bones of the building - the infrastructure. At the same time, our High School facility also requires important upgrades to ensure it continues to provide safe, functional, and modern learning spaces for our students.

For the past several months, our School Board has been engaged in thoughtful and sometimes difficult conversations about these issues. These discussions have centered on a fundamental question: how do we ensure safe, functional learning environments for our students while also being responsible stewards of taxpayer resources?

There are no easy answers when it comes to facilities planning. School buildings represent some of the largest and longest-lasting investments a community can make. Our board understands that any future decision must balance the needs of our students, the realities of aging infrastructure, and the financial impact on our community.

One thing that has remained constant throughout these conversations is a shared commitment to transparency and community engagement. Over the coming months, we will continue working to provide clear information about the condition of our facilities, the options available to the district, and what those options could mean for our schools and taxpayers.

Our schools are one of the most important investments we make together. They are where our children learn, grow, and prepare for the future. As we move forward, we are committed to ensuring that our facilities continue to support that mission for generations to come.

As always, I encourage community members to stay informed, ask questions, and stay engaged as we navigate these important discussions together.

🎉✈️ Adventure awaits our BEA seniors! ✈️🎉

On Wednesday night, 10 Blue Earth Area seniors and their families officially found out where they’ll be heading this summer through the American Exchange Project! The excitement was high as students learned which part of the country they’ll be traveling to for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. 🌎

Through this domestic student exchange, students will explore new communities, meet peers from across the country, and gain a whole new perspective on life beyond southern Minnesota.

This marks the 4th summer BEA students have participated in the American Exchange Project, and we can't wait to see the memories, friendships, and stories this group will bring back!

Mrs. Eckhardt took her Anatomy/Physiology class and some HOSA kids down to Luther College in Decorah, IA today to experience a cadaver! Being able to learn about the inside of a body in a hands-on manner adds a whole new level of understanding to all the things they discuss in class using models and diagrams. We encourage you to find a student that went and ask what their favorite part was!

Due to privacy issues, they weren't able to take any photos during the cadaver lab part, but they also got to experience some other fun things. The students did a campus tour, taking the iconic Luther "bell"-fie (Bell selfie), and also experienced the Nursing Simulation center. Students got to check their pulse with a Doppler, use a blood pressure monitor, and play around with how the manikins can interact with their nursing scenario.

Most of the students were 11/12th graders but Mrs. Eckhardt also brought some 8th graders along and it was cool for them to experience college life, in general. It was a great day of learning outside of the classroom and experiencing some opportunities that attending a college can bring!

March is Music in Our Schools Month, and at Blue Earth Area Schools, we are truly grateful for our music programs! 🎶

From our youngest learners discovering rhythm and beat to our middle and high school students performing on stage, music connects our students, builds confidence, sparks creativity, and strengthens our school community.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to our amazing music teachers — Kristin Johnson, Paul Johnson, Peter Koenig, and Kelsey Zbaracki — for the passion, energy, and dedication you pour into our students every single day. We are so grateful for the way you inspire, challenge, and encourage our kids to shine.

Be sure to join us at one of several performances this month and celebrate the power of music with us! 🎵

Rock Science Has Never Tasted So Good! 🍬🪨

Our 4th graders are "layering" their knowledge! They learned exactly how sedimentary rocks are formed—by using Airheads candy!

By layering different colors (sediment) and applying pressure (compaction), they created their very own "edible" metamorphic and sedimentary models. Who knew geology could be this delicious?
Check out these budding geologists in action! 👇

A Day of Harmony at Martin Luther High School! 🎶

What an incredible day for our BEA vocalists! Following the Large Group Vocal Contest yesterday, our students stayed busy making some truly beautiful music at the Director’s Honor Choir Concert.
We are so proud of the talent and dedication these students showed while representing our school. Check out the highlights in the photos below:

📸 BEA Honor Choir Representatives: Our talented group that participated in the event.
📸 Sub-Section Power: All the honor choir students from our area performing together in one massive, moving ensemble.
📸 The Guest Maestro: A quick shot of Mr. Johnson with the guest conductor, Dr. Kurt Runestad. It was a privilege to learn from him!
📸 Featured Performance: A huge shoutout to our BEA Quartet—McKinley Hanson, Natalie Schiltz, Elaena Schiltz, and Ava Petersen—who were selected to perform as part of the concert!

Music is alive and well at BEA! 🎤👏 #BEAMusic #HonorChoir #VocalExcellence #GoBucs
